The waste from the households flows through the drain or inlet lines to the tank where it is stored, sits and separates. After the waste has been separated, the solid ones stay in the holding tank for the bacteria to break it down and decompose. The liquid waste water goes through from the tank to a series of drain field trenches via outlet lines with holes. This clean water then gets absorbed into the ground and then becomes the part of nature’s water cycle.

The fact that our sewage tanks are underground; we can never be 100% certain of what is going on inside them.

Few of the absolute certain signs that your sewage system may be failing:

• Sewage back-ups in the household and slow draining toilets and/or drains.
• When the line that goes into your sewage tank is clogged or backed up, another warning sign often experienced is that of odour.
• When the lines going from your septic tank to the drain fields are blocked, that is when you will encounter the sight of surface water, normally over the drain field.

At times, some of the mentioned warning signs go away on their own and you might think “Now that’s great” but do not be mistaken because these warning signs are definitely a cause for concern and should not be ignored under any circumstance.

When you get these sewage warning signs or red flags, it is time for some proper sewage tank cleaning.
